Are you sure the web traffic that is coming to your site legit?
I have found a lot of ready made sites have a mini back office that shows you who is coming in etc. But a lot of the times these numbers are just thrown on there and are not clickable and does not show you where the traffic is coming in from. It seems like there is just this arbitrary number on there that is placed to satisfy the owner of the website.
I don't want to mention names here because that opens up a whole can of worms. In either case I have seen this occur on free websites, industry platform sites and spammy MLM type websites. Maybe that doesn't bother you in the least but what if it is killing your sales?
There are two things I absolutely have to have complete control over in my websites.
1. Sitemaps - These are special web pages that talk to search engines. They offer a website outline so it can be indexed properly.
2. Google Analytics - I have to be able to put tracking code into all of the web pages in my site.
This will give me a realistic impression of who is coming into the site and how long they are staying, (this is called a bounce rate). I want to also track the keywords that people are using to find my site in the first place. Then I want to track how people are finding me and where they came in from, (was it an article? a press release? a blog post..? etc.).
You wouldn't believe how some web companies and even industry issued websites gloss over this very integral portion of your campaign. Its flabbergasting...
I could talk all day ... but who'd listen?
