What is Instagram? Instagram is essentially a combination of most popular social networking sites.
- Facebook - it is a nice way to connect with those you know.
- Pinterest - it is a nice way to meet people with similar interests and to “like” their photos.
- Twitter - it is a visual opportunity to check in or document your life.
How does Instagram work? It is essentially a place to interact and post pictures. Make Use Of.Com advises us to, “post regularly, interact with users, include an interesting description with your photos that will get other users attention.”
- Use Hash-tags - Hash-tags are essentially the topic of your picture. You can tag photos based on topic, location and popular hashtags that are trending.
- Interact with Others - Consider interacting with others using the comments section, by posting photos and general communication.
- Be Sociable - Just like any other social network, Instagram is also about engaging with others. Like other people's photos but take it a step further and leave comments.
- What's Happening? - Add photos that are expressions of your life. They can be anything from what you're cooking, what fun adventure you're on, a beautiful sunset or other community photos.
- Don't Overshare. Your followers want to hear from you on a regular basis but they don't want to be bombarded. If your audience feels you're overloading their feed, they will more than likely click the "unfollow" button.
If you haven't done so already, go ahead and stick you big toe into the Instagram waters. Take and share a few photos, engage with people and have fun!
