Today I had the pleasure of attending a speed networking event at Dodge's Market in Elmer, NJ. The meeting was organized by Roe Melnicove who is a National Marketing Director with the health & wellness company, Juice Plus. I met Roe back in 2008 at an eWoman Networking event in Voorhees. I actually didn't get the chance to talk to her until the event was over, in the parking lot! Well, it turned out that I had met her husband, an attorney, during a recent settlement. Small world! We've stayed in touch ever since.
Roe's story is quite compelling. She is a former teacher and college professor who had a significant war with systemic Lupus as a younger woman. Instead of succumbing to the disease without a fight, Roe battled back through nutrition, exercise and a whole food product, called Juice Plus. The capsules, taken daily, provide the nutrition of 17 fruits & vegetables.
Roe is the picture of health now. Her story is nothing short of amazing!
So, when I learned that she was beginning a networking group, it didn't take much for me to say, "I'm in!" Roe is the kind of person who I want to get to know better. I am impressed with her return-to-health story and also her business success.
Today's meeting was fashioned after the concept of Speed Dating. We participated in Speed Networking. It was super FUN. Roe was the time-keeper. One row of attendees shifted through the line every 4 - 5 minutes. That way, each person was able to meet and talk to all who attended. It worked like clockwork.
Today, I was fortunate to meet a representative from a South Jersey newspaper called the Courier Post who shared some interesting mass-marketing ideas. Very intriguing! I'll be speaking to her in detail tomorrow.
I also met the current Republican candidate for the State Senate in the third district. She is a lawyer who worked for the state of NJ for thirteen years. She has got quite a race on her hands as she is running against the current President of the State Senate. I wish her well.
There was also a young woman who is a hairdresser who is branching out into her own side-business of party planning for young girls. She will host hair-nails-makeup parties. It sounds like a TON of fun, for sure! I can picture an event at our local Libary featuring her business.
I learned about a family-owned business who plans canoe and kayak trips, locally. In fact, they have 'moonlight canoeing' at Parvin State Park in Pittsgrove, NJ that sounds downright romantic! I'd definitely like to try that in the near future!
The group will be meeting again on the 4th Tuesday of May at 3pm. At that time, we will be participating in Boardroom Networking. Each attendee will get 5 minutes to share with the group. I can see how that method of networking can be valuable, too.
If you'd like to attend, just give me a call. This is one of those things that the saying, "The More The Merrier" is quite appropriate!
I hope you can make it!
So, what is YOUR favorite method of networking and why?
