Do we really have to say goodbye to Marilyn?forever marilyn

Do we really have to say goodbye to Marilyn?

The 26 foot tall  Marilyn Monroe sculpture has provided thrills, and endless photo shoots at Palm Canyon Drive and Tahquitz Canyon Way in Palm Springs for a year.  We originally were told that "she" will be leaving in June, but today's Desert Sun reports that her stay has been extended until August.  She really does like it HOT!

The camera loves Marilyn...and she was named the Best Photo Op for the Palm Springs area in 2o13!

In typical Palm Springs style there will be a fabulous party planned for Marilyn's sendoff!   A film series is planned along with the party... "Some Like it Hot" would be perfect here in June!

The Forever Marilyn Outdoor Movie Series on May 3 will screen  the comedy "Monkey Business" (1952), in which Monroe stars with Cary Grant and Ginger Rogers, and the thriller "Niagara" with Joseph Cotten on May 17.  There also are screenings of new short films from ShortFest on June 7. All events start at 8:30 p.m.

Monroe's 86th birthday and farewell party takes place from 6 to 9:30 p.m. June 1 with musical performances, especially Jeffrey Allen as Elton John serenading Marilyn, and free birthday cake too!

Kathy - How crazy is that to have a 26' tall Marilyn just hanging around in Palm Springs!  I wonder if community organizers will arrange for her to spend another winter in Palm Dessert?  It seems like she enjoyed it as much as everyone has enjoyed having her around!

Hi Kathy, those final parties sound like a lot of fun and the re-play of some of her movies will be enjoyable as well.  They should leave that statue there since it has been such an attraction.  Nice post!!

As if Palm Springs wasn't hot enough already.  :)

I bet the tourists love getting photos of the 26' Marilyn before she has to go Kathy.

I like Marilyn ...  I think we could have been great friends. I am told she was not good with female friends but I think I could have been the first had I had a chance.
