To all the young people starting out or going to college, to the retirees or people in transition, as well as professionals and families, please consider working or visiting at Disneyland at some point in time. The place has earned its reputation for quite a few things.....Lets look into some of them and enjoy the dream of a man who enjoyed dreaming

I WAS THERE

I worked there for about 3 years and had a ball. The camaraderie of the cast members is contagious as we are all actors on a giant stage. The place itself is intriguing both front stage and back stage. Employee stories abound that make you laugh, ponder and cringe....

(up) CHUCK IS NOT WELCOMED

ONE STORY: I am working the submarine rides and it is a hot day. There is a Monorail station right above the Sub attraction. One day I look up and see a young rather large boy lean over the upstairs rail and start throwing up. His mother is screaming and he is heaving. That is not the problem. Right below is a long line of people waiting to board the subs. They are drenched in this kids upchuck. There is pandemonium. Others start heaving too. leaving a lot out.....It ends with free sweat-shirts and other things for some.

CAN YOU CHANGE A HUNDRED?

ANOTHER STORY: Someone tried to pass a phony $100 bill at one of the concession stands. It was such a lousy counterfeit $100 bill that yes, even a minimum wage employee caught it. Security came out and the man passing it became belligerent and mean. Other security personnel were called and about seven surrounded this man and escorted him backstage. He kept screaming don't touch me and to their credit no one did. They just kept calling him sir and telling him to keep moving. Very professionally done and excellent training at work.

RANDOM

The security is excellent at the Parks. Undercover agents go around riding the rides just like everyone else. That is in addition to regular security personnel and... all personnel are trained on how to give help.

It is aptly called the ""happiest place on earth because it truly is. It is also referred to as the cleanest place too. When the Park closes to the public at night, giant lights are brought in and night crews come in painting, cleaning trimming, and replacing things to perfection.

If you like helping people, if you adore kids and respect families, then you will love working there. You learn to give as well as receive. It is very satisfying to participate in the world of Walt Disney. You know he traveled extensively visiting many amusement parks and learning what people liked and didn't liked, what worked and what didn't. Disneyland is the result of that research.

There are many great experiences to share and that would take many many posts.....I think one of the nicest presents you can give anyone close to you is a yearly pass to Disneyland. In fact, while you are at it, give one to yourself too....Money well spent......enjoy

Richie, great blog.  I am a Disneyworld fan, as it is much closer to OH than Disneyland.  When I was working in the corporate world, I loved taking our kids to Disney World, because that is the only place I could go where I could totally forget about my job.  I've always told my partner/husband that, when we retire, I want to work for "The Mouse."  Those retirees look like they really like their jobs.  But, if real estate biz stays the way it is now, I don't think I will ever retire.
