Speechless Sunday: Moon Jelly? No Moon Jelly Fish!

moon jelly fish on Sandyland beach

The tides bring forth interesting creatures: shells, crabs, kelp, coral and on occasion moon jelly fish.  We loved the beauty of this creature who unlike its other cousins does not have long tentacles.   The translucent quality of the moon jelly is that it reflected both the sand and sky as I took its picture.

Happy Sunday, wishing you all a great week ahead. Cheers, Ron & Alexandra

Good morning, Alexandra and Ron - I must say this is a first for me to see - at least I think so...very interesting.   Have a great Sunday.

Being translucent they must be easy to step on unawares although it is unique and I've never seen one.

Hi Alexandra - Nice photo, makes a giant mucusoid blob look interesting - I'd much rather run into one of those on the beach than in the water. Do they sting?

Hi Alexandra - nice reflective little creature. Love how nature tries to give it a chance to escape viewing from its many predators. Glad you were a friendly - only wanting to take a photo - not a bite. Happy Sunday, D

Alexandra,

This one reminds me of the pattern often seen on big rocks in Denmark and Bridgeton, Maine. I would love to research this more, thanks to you.

You're always a good inspiration to me.

I have never photographed a jelly fish.  Another good reason to have a camera in hand. The pattern will probably inspire a design.

I don't think I've ever seen one without the long tentacles. These are so interesting. I love to watch them move through the water at an aquarium. So graceful...

Hi Ron and Alexa dram I didn't know there was a special name for that jelly fish, silly me. We used to see similar jellyfish on the German North Sea coast.

Mivhael,

They show up different times of the year, and it depends what the tide brings in...It is beautiful to see, and I love what our oceans bring.

Teral,

That is true, but one has to watch where they are going, and stepping on a sea shell, rock or coral is all part of the beach adventure.

Dick,

Yes they do sting, but it is not life threatening...it is best no to walk on them, and although they are dead, their stings still affect you.  They are at water's edge, and the water takes them out.

Debb,

We are defintely friends of nature in all its manifestations.

Adrian,

I am always astounded and delighted by nature, Ron is alos.

Wanda,

We are, and it was fun to share with all of you its amazing beauty.

Patricia,

Thank you, sounds like I have to go to Denmark, where I have not been yet.

Roy,

This was a first for us too, and indeed you have to have your camera wherever you go.

Larry and Sheila,

Exactly our sentiments.

John,

Glad to hear it warmed up in your neck of the woods, and hope your showings lead to a sale.

Kathy,

You are welcome, as our oceans get healthier new life shows up.

Joni,

Mee too, we stood at the Monterey Aquarium for a long time at the jelly fish exhibit.

Silvia,

Ah, well perhaps the German name is different.

Kathy,

That is why we are there so often, we see so many changes. A

We saw many of those at Melbourne Beach when we had a place over there, Alexandra. They are interesting and quite pretty. Your photo is lovely.
