Valley Stream School Budgets – It’s That Time of Year Again!

Thumbs up thumbs down photo

If you own a Valley Stream Home or are considering buying in Valley Stream or anywhere in Nassau or Suffolk counties for that matter, it is very important for Valley Stream homeowners to participate in the school budget vote. This vote in particular affects your wallet. Your taxes will undoubtedly increase but YOU DO have a say regarding how much taxes will increase. It is an annual ritual that our Valley Stream school districts crunch numbers and discuss in detail the staffing, programs and buildings that provide education to our children.

Valley Stream has four school districts.

• Valley Stream School District 24 is in south Valley Stream
• Valley Stream School District 30 is pretty much in the mid-section of Valley Stream
• Valley Stream School District 13 is in north Valley Stream
• Valley Stream Central High School District

There is also a section of Valley Stream that falls in the Hewlett-Woodmere School District #14 and that is yet another budget.  School Districts 24, 30 and 13 are for the elementary schools (Kindergarten to 6th grade) and the High School District is from 7th to 12th grade.

Valley Stream is an older town with some buildings that date back to the 1920s therefore maintenance and building upgrade issues are of significance in any budget conversation. Maintaining sufficient staffing levels and programs that promote and stimulate learning are of great importance. Valley Stream home values are SIGNIFICANTLY affected by the quality of your school system so it is important to keep that in mind when you vote.

While this Valley Stream Real Estate Agent does not currently have children in Valley Stream schools, I can understand the thought to dismiss the budget and vote down any increase. That may not be such a wise decision. Property values tend to decline if the school district does not perform well. Paying a little more in taxes to maintain and better the school system will keep Valley Stream a desirable place and ultimately increase the property values.

Remember to vote Tuesday, May 21, 2013.
