So, you're not sure that Rainmaker status is worth the money?

So, you're not sure that Rainmaker status is worth the money?  When I discovered Active Rain, I really didn't even know what it was.  I signed up and then forgot it.  Somewhere along the line, I ended up on the Active Rain site again and started reading some of the blogs.  Eventually, I mustered up the courage to write a blog.  It wasn't my best work by any standards, but it was my foray into blogging.  Much to my surprise, a few kind souls commented on it.

Shortly after, I started to blog more often, and I started to receive more comments.  Then it happened.  That inevitable phone call.  A salesperson from Active Rain called to offer me the Rainmaker status for $1 a month for some period (which I've forgotten).  After that, I wrote more blogs, I received more comments and I gained more enthusiasm.  That was the Active Rain side of things, but there was something else happening that I really didn't understand.

Other people, not associated with Active Rain, started reading my blogs.  That made the phone ring, and business improved.  March 2013 was my second year on Active Rain.  Late in 2012, a friend of mine, who is a computer programmer, told me about a company he was creating software for.  The company constantly scans the Internet to see how you as an individual are trending online.

Once you get your account set up, the service begins scanning.  Each day, you can look online to see how the material you've written, or what others are saying about you or a host of other things related to you are trending.  You will see some things move up on the list, and somethings will move down.  Some material will leave your top 50 hits.  Each month, they will send an email with the top 10 things related to you that are being seen by the public, but you can check in anytime to see what your stats are.

On my list this week, my Active Rain blog is included in 8 of the top 10.  That's exciting, but in the top 50, Active Rain is 47 of the top 50.  Was that Rainmaker status worth the money?  You bet.  The SEO advantage of an Active Rain blog is like a gold mine for profits.  If you're not convinced yet, call me.

If you're going to take the time to write blog posts, then you may as well make them available to the public. I was going to call you anyway for something else.

Mike, great job with this post! If you put the work in ActiveRain is well worth the money. Solid for marketing but, also a great way to connect with other agents. Congrats on the feature!

Hmmm, not quite convinced yet.  $1/month would be a no brainer, but $50 indefinitely is a tough pill to swallow for something that may or may not return on investment somewhere down the road.  You mentioned it became free after a while.  Is there still a policy for earning a free rainmaker account?

Yes it is, Gary.

Aswesome, Sarah.

Thank you, Amanda.  Have a great weekend.

CJ, I think it was $1 for three months and then went ot $59.  As you cross certain point levels the fee comes down.  When you cross 500K points, it's free from then on.

I used to check on myself with the Google tool that does that. Not as good as your friend's program. Guess I need to sign up again, just to see....

I was wondering what those points do. I am sure that I missed a webinar or something explaining everything.  I, too, am still trying to figure out if I can even do the Blog on a consistent manner and who my audience actually is.

I knew an agent who was a great blogger, however, she was not selling any real estate.  She eventually left the business.  If I remember correctly, she was the #1 AR agent in the area and was very proud of that.

I do love the trainings like the Blogging Boot Camp and other things that Active Rain does.  For me personally, I have to know that I am going to do the Blog before investing money.  Red Light Green Light.

And the one tip that I have yet to incorporate in my blogs is to look at my emails and the content that I am sending out.  That was a great tip because we have lots of great content in our emails.

Thanks for the encouragement. I do love the knowledge and the positive atmosphere.

Terri, I hear you.  A healthy skepticism is not a problem.  What I've found over the past two years is that the local blogs, neighborhood blogs, market reports, local events, how-to blogs, etc., are the types of blogs that put you on the radar for buyers and sellers.  I do a lot of different types, but those local information formats bring the business better than other types.  Good luck.

Great success story Mike!  I think AR is worth the price.  It has  taught me a lot about blogging and SEO.  Not an expert but it has brought me business.

I totally agree, Mary.  It has been a great asset to my understanding of using the Internet for business.  There is a lot of information consolidated in this one place.
