The Duxbury Spring House Tour will be happening on Sunday, May 18, this year. This is a fabulous, fun event organized by the Duxbury Newcomer's Club and enjoyed by long-time residents as well as everyone else who participates.
Tour begins at the Nathaniel Winsor Jr. House, 479 Washington Street in Duxbury at 10 a.m. and runs until 4 p.m. Here's a Google map of the starting point that you can use to get directions. You can Buy tickets online at the Duxbury Newcomers Club website, or in person at The Studio, Foodies, or Talbots in Snug Harbor.
As further enticement, I copied a couple of blurbs and photos from the Duxbury Spring Tour's Facebook page, which you can visit here.
"This grand, clapboard residence that graces one of Duxbury's historic high streets originally served as a ship building warehouse to 19th century mariners. Multiple reincarnations turned this home into a shoe shop, barbershop, women's exchange and turn-of-the-century antique shop. Petrified wood beams pulled from ships built in this home line the ballroom height ceilings. . . . "
"Nestled on a side street just inland from the Bluefish River, this majestic 1830s antique has a story to tell as the original home of Sylvanus Drew, Jr who sold the property for a song as the shipbuilding industry collapsed in the late 19th century. Over the decades, the home has been restored and expanded with historical integrity and breathtaking detail. The current owners have lovingly decorated the home to reflect the watery hues and sandy beaches of this historic seaside town. This home boasts eight original fireplaces to warm what was once a summer cottage. A glorious solarium . . . "
