Thomas Dowd, Photographer
A lifelong resident of the South Shore, Thomas Dowd is a photographer who revels in the beauty of our smal corner of the planet. It shows in his vibrant, breathing portrayals of the landscape, whether his feet are on the ground or a thousand feet in the air.
Remember dark rooms? Tom is glad that the days of developing his pictures in the darkness of a room filled with trays of chemicals is over. Now, like nearly every photographer, his vision, once it is captured on a digital canvas, takes shape in a photo editor. The results are spectacular.
One of Tom's latest projects involves photographic collages of wet beach rocks. For the moment, you'll have to imagine the broad range and contrast of colors and textures that he has collected, arranged and photographed. When the photos are ready, I hope this page will feature some examples.

Tom boundless enthusiam for his art is tempered by humility about his artistic achievements. He is awed by photographers whose juried art he admires at area shows, like those at the North River Arts Society. But while other artists do things differently, I don't think anyone distills the essence of what it means to be able to take in the visual joys of our area better than Tom.
A few of Tom's creations can be seen here, and many more on his website, Zenfolio.
Tom lives in Duxbury. You can contact him here by email.
