Google+ is not a Social Network

During our SEO Beyond Your Website class of IMSD, instructor Chad Hyams shared the reason that Google+ was not covered in the Social section of IMSD, but rather the Search section. It is because Google+ is not a social network.

Watch this clip and then see the 4 steps below to setup your Google+ profile

Setup your Google+ account so Google knows who you are. Make sure you complete these 4 steps when creating your profile:

  1. Use a professional profile photo
  2. Create a cover photo. This is your first impression
  3. Use a short Tagline in your About section
  4. Include keywords and links in your Introduction in the About section

If you learned something from this Google+ is not a Social Network post, visit IMSD.net for more info like this.

spent 6 hours in a classroom yesterday learning the power of the integrated Google tools - Google+ isn't even the half of it.  But it can and will be a powerful tool!

This is confusing me - when you sign into your Google account, your search results are way different than an anonymous search. This breaks up your viewers into two groups, those who have signed into Google and those who have not. Your ranking may be higher with fellow Google account users than the rest of the world. When I go to see where I'm ranking for a keyword, I always remember to hit the top right 'hide personal results' button so I can get a more honest ranking. (ef)

It sounds like you're trying to tell us something about Google+. Perhaps, it is more powerful than a social network?

Thanks, Kim

Customization like this I think if you want people in the sales game to know you to a tee. If not, I would stay out of Google Plus.

Love and light,

Laura

Google Plus is a great place to be found when people are searching the internet and might be connected with you somewhow.

Don't attempt to use Google Plus like you would Facebook, it isn't the same thing

It's hard keeping up with all the social media outlets, but I'll try it if it's going to help my business grow.

Interesting.  Google is very hard to define, as it is an evolutionary creature, and as such keeps changing.

A lot of people use it for networking posting and interacting there with others regularly.
