City of Jacksonville Beach, Moonlight Movies, Summer 2013
One of the best things about summer is our Moonlight Movies. Shown at the oceanfront bandshell, it's fabulous family friendly oceanfront environment. Famlies come to spread out blankets and they can bring food for their kids, as well as non-alcoholic beverages. This is the site also known as Latham Plaza, named after a prior mayor of Jacksonville Beach. His son is our current mayor, continuing the tradition of being a family friendly community.
Moonlight Movies in Jacksonville Beach, FL has been a summer tradition for a 12 years and is one of the highlights of summer living in our oceanfront community. The movie schedule is shown below; please keep in mind, should the weather turn inclement, there are no covered viewing areas. It's best to check the weather forecast that morning to confirm.
The movies are family friendly, and suitable for all ages to watch, so get your snacks ready and watch the little ones fall asleep (possibly!) while relaxing on the grass.
We just had our first Moonlight Movie on 5/24/13, which was Iron Man, and the upcoming movies are Independence Day on 5/31 and Ice Age on 6/7/13.
There are public parking lots close to the area, which charge $5 per car on the weekends; you will be lucky to find a spot on the street unless you get there early.
Jacksonville Beach is the largest of our beaches towns; there are restaurants and shops surrounding Latham Plaza, so depending on the ages of your kids, you may be able to come out, enjoy the surf and sand, grab a bite to eat, and then watch the movie. There are public restrooms at the Pier parking lot, but not that many showers, so you will want to bring extra towels so you can get everyone cleaned up a bit for the movie.
