Print Advertising - Where we get the most results

By
Real Estate Broker/Owner with Weaver Realtors B55786000

I am located in a small rural area of Iowa and surprisingly there are still a number of people who look at newspaper ads and mailed pieces. We have used every type of advertising there is, including many types of mailings over the last 8 years. I especially like and have seen response to neighborhood postcard mailings on properties that have just listed, properties that have just received an accepted offer (especially if it is within 10 days of listing), and 2 postcards we send that invites neighbors to come to open houses and to compete with a newly listed property due to increased traffic. We also do a monthly printed and online accessible newsletter that has a market update that gets a lot of comments and leads. We place a local coupon in the monthly newsletter and scatter local things in our booklets (our booklets are done in both English and Spanish).

I use postcards and print mail to keep in touch with my sphere and have for about 7 years. My Broker does a postcard that includes a neighborhood report for his own neighborhood and has done very well.

Georgia - Great use of print advertising.  It's funny with everyone getting their information electronically these days, there is something to be said for getting a nice postcard in the mail!

Hi Georgia, I can see where mailers would work well in a small rural area, especially for new listings and recently solds.  People are always curious.

Frank, Laura and Bette,

Thank you for the comments, I have thought about a pc with a market report, we do put one in our newsletter that goes out monthly. Print mailings have worked for us, we are evaluating our matrketing to make some changes and we will keep both our newsletter and our post cards. Hope you all have a great year.

I like the idea of a local coupon in your newsletter. That would keep readers coming back if only for the "scavenger hunt" aspect.

Glad to hear that print marketing is working for you and your area.  Every time I consider using it to market a specific area, I remember all the postcards I get from other agents, and see all the marketing on doors in the neighborhoods I am interested in marketing.  When areas are oversaturated with lots of other agents doing print marketing, I am not sure how effective the new guy (me) would be in generating business in neighborhood I just started marketing.

Troy, Do something original with your print advertising, like have a contest, market it with Facebook and postcards. We have a couple of new restaurants in the area and I have a drawing for gift cards, or other give aways. If I get a response or contact back from a post card or FB I immediately put the in my SOI, I also mail out a monthly newsletter. Announce the winner in the newsletter, put info the reader can use and that is interesting. Good Luck!
