More than likely you have assisted clients to find an agent out of town if they are relocating or given a colleague an agent's contact information if they have a client in need of an out of state agent. You may already have a contact in the area, may search on your broker's main website if it is a national company, or you may likely refer to someone here in Active Rain.
I don't know about you, but it takes me quite some time to find an agent to refer my clients too. I check out their blog posts, website, online presence, and testimonials before phoning them. Many times, agents do not respond back in a timely manner. When I do speak with a real estate agent on the phone, I ask various questions and discuss the buyer's needs with them to get a feel if it will be a good match. Once I find one or more agents, I let my clients know and encourage them to interview the agent along with any others they are interested in hiring for assistance.
But what do you do when the referral does not work out and the agent you thought would do a great job completely blows it? It becomes more complex when your former client is in the middle of a transaction with the real estate agent.
Ever had a referral go wrong? How did you handle it?
