Silly Real Estate Agent, don't you know where the property is located?

By
Real Estate Agent with United Country Ponderosa Realty, Red Feather Lakes, Colorado

I’ve been having a little problem lately, and not sure if any of you have experienced this, but I put the correct address in MLS….and then it shows up on Trulia on a different street!

You see, Larimer County changed some of our street names 3 or 4 years ago- I guess they forgot to let Zillow and Trulia and Google know!

I have a vacant lot listing on Manso Way, in Crystal Lakes but Trulia is advertising it as being on Commanche Way – it’s not- which makes me look like an idiot.

Also, a very nice log cabin on Chipeta Rd., in the Village of Red Feather, is being advertised on Trulia as being on Hiawatha Way – or some such street that  used to exist but doesn’t any longer.

I tried to create a Postlet for that great listing on Chipeta Rd….Postlets are in the Zillow family …. NOPE- if Google can’t map it, you can’t create a Postlet!

So thank you to the BIG GUNS, Trulia, Zillow and Google, who apparently think they know more than I do about property in Red Feather Lakes.

I'm down here walking in the dirt, feet on the ground, and as a matter of fact, I do know where the property is located.

So, please just call me if you're interested.  I'm not a cranky person, actually I'm a very nice person- until someone or something starts messing with my listings on line!

I'll go take a walk now...it will be OK......

Hi Mary! Folks need to call you for a showing and you can take them right to the listing as you are the expert with BOOTS On The Ground in the Red Feather Lakes and Larimore. Give me a printed map any day over GPS or Google maps. Same thing happens in Sharon's hometown with the GPS routing people off the interstate to buy gas; when they show up they find out there hasn't been a gas station in town for the last seven years! They are on fumes and do not make it to the nearest gas station over 10 miles away! Gotta love those google maps and gps!

Mary-You can't believe everything you read online. That is why you need to trust your realtor. You know your stuff and you are NO IDIOT. Would it help to send them an e-mail?

Thanks Lou, I can't imagine that I'm the only one this has happened to either- I wonder if anyone has been abe to correct their listings? I cannot edit the property address once it's syndicated to Trulia.

Hi Bruce,  GPS works great in many areas...not so great in others! and too bad when you arrive and there's no gas station! Yikes.  Still, I'm providing the right info, Bruce!! oh yes, BOOTS on the ground, you're right...

Hi Sharon, That's true, you can't trust everything online! I think it's such a disservice to my sellers!  Should someone take out on their own, they will never find these listings.  Also, they are limiting my abiity to market these properties.  I did email Postlets, but no satisfaction -  since it cannot be mapped by Google,  I cannot do a Postlet and submit it the other various websites from there.

Mary you write the cutest post.  I had to chuckle because this happened with my own street address.

Have a great week.

Mary~ That's a challenge that's not easy to overcome. Hopefully serious buyers for your listings are working with a professional who can help them to find the TRUE address! :-)

I love your line about the big guns Mary. I honestly find those sites to be nearly worthless...yet the public puts value in them...go figure.

I feel your frustration. I, too, live in a rural area where the satellite information isn't up to day. A GPS may be able to get you in the general area, but good luck actually finding the street. A GPS could get you lost out here. I haven't checked the mapping of my listings on these sites. I guess I'll have to do that.

Mary, I remember going through the Medicine Bow and Snow Mountains just above you in Wyoming and having a detailed local map that even showed gravel roads to little lakes.  I'll take a map any day over GPS!  It has to be so frustrating that the internet/GPS big boys can't get it right and hurt your listings and reputation when they are inflexible and don't keep up with changes in local roads and streets!

Another great reason why consumers need to not rely on those sites as gospel.  If they want up-to-date information they need to work with a Realtor®.  And in the case of Larimer County it needs to be Mary Douglas.

Mary, I feel your pain.  But, if buyers and sellers would work with US and not some automated system, we could help them through all this.  A few years back, when they changed a bunch of zip codes here, we had the same problem.  They'll catch up sometime in the next millennium.

Hi Mary: When you enter the property address as a new listing into Zillow, doesn't it give you a choice of addresses with bullets to choose among?

Ha! Thanks Jennifer, so you know what street you really live on right?!!!

Hi Donna, I hope that would be the case! It's just weird to tell a seller- "Your listing is on Trulia...but it's under a different-um,  wrong address"!

Hi Jeffrey, yes, that's what bothersome- people are searching for properties there... sigh

Hi Debbie, I hope your listings are OK!  I think the main problem here is that the street names changed but that was some time ago.  I know what you mean, GPS has gotten several people lost in our area, they walk in the office so confused....and then we give them a MAP! :-}

Hey Bruce, GPS can be downright dangerous in remote areas! :-}  It's really OK with me if they are not up to date, but I think there should be a way to correct data- which, if there is, I am not aware.

Hi Elizabeth, I don't enter the listing either in Zillow or Trulia- they automatically go there from our MLS.  The Zillow listing has the new street name, but when I tried to create a Postlet, it wouldn't let me because it didn't recognize the address. Makes no sense.  Trulia, on the other hand just changed the street name on the listings...

Juli, sad, I won't be around to see it ( chuckling )---I would like to live long enough to see street view someday in our little neighborhoods...right now, we can't get off the (main) county road!

Ah, thanks Jane.  I agree, a local real estate agent is the best resource.

Mary, this is quite interesting!   Changing street names would be difficult to keep up on the Internet, and Trulia and Zillow cannot do this to start with!

Mary,  I'm in the far north in New York State half way to the North Pole and no I have not seen any polar bears or raindeer, yet.  Located just south of the Saint Lawrence River and goolgle keeps putting my listing in the Great State of New York City.  I get lots of calls wanting to buy the 1oo acres of their dreams for a very low price. I use the correct Latitude and Longitude, I have very little trust in GPS up here.   I wonder if I could get help from Russia, they know where I'm located close to Fort Drum NY.

Hi Joan - I missed this in May! and you're are absolutely right! Thank you.

Hi Mike, that is funny... not so much when people think there really is that great deal in New York City and those that would love your area- can't find it!

Perhaps the Russians could help in some way :-)  Thanks or the laugh, it's good to know that I am not alone in this.
