East Whittier Neighborhoods
East Whittier
While most people consider Gunn Avenue to be the western border for East Whittier, the Whittwood neighborhood has such a strong presence that it overshadows the East Whittier moniker, and is almost an island in the middle of East Whittier. Indeed, East Whittier Middle School is actually just west of Gunn.

This East Whittier City School District boundaries are shown below.
Does this map definitively show the true East Whittier boundaries? Absolutely not! This map also has an error, where it shows East La Mirada between Santa Gertrudes and 1st Avenue; it is actually Unincorporated East Whittier. You’ll also notice that the district map includes South Whittier, Murphy Ranch, Michigan Park, Friendly Hills, Mar Vista Heights, Penn Park and other neighborhoods. I doubt that any of the people living in those neighborhoods would say that they live in East Whittier. Can you imagine anyone north of Whittier Boulevard saying they live in East Whittier? Not going to happen.
Unincorporated East Whittier
Maps of Unincorporated Whittier
Jagged like a jigsaw puzzle, Unincorporated East Whittier starts on the west at La Mirada Boulevard and continues east to the border of La Habra at Grayling and Valley Home. The northern border is primarily the railroad track north of Lambert. The southern border is also the border with the City of La Mirada, along Leffingwell, then Lemon, and finally, Imperial Highway.
Below is a map provided by L.A. County of all of Unincorporated Whittier, as shown in the Whittier Unincorporated Community Guide 2010.
