inappropriate closet lighting
Tom is so right and had to reblog him because we have seen and cleaned up, after the devastating affects of a closet fire. He describes what will happen if the proper, fire proof lighting is not in yours, or your homeowners' enclosed spaces.
Inappropriate Closet Lighting
This comes up quite a bit, especially in dwellings built before 2003. Any time I see an open fixture in a closet, I call it out for replacement.
An open fixture in a closet can be a fire hazard.
Incandescent bulbs produce more heat than light. Often, we'll see a lot of storage on the closet shelves, and this storage tends to be flammable in nature. Extra pillows, sheets and blankets, sweaters, comforters, papers, feather boas... you name it, it's probably crammed up onto a closet shelf.
If the storage comes in contact with a light bulb, a fire could break out.
All incandescent closet fixtures should be either enclosed or recessed, to reduce the chance of fire.
It's an easy fix, and it could save your house from going up in flames. Call an electrician and swap out those bare bulb fixtures today!
