Today, May 15th is Peace Officers Memorial Day. This day of recognition was first established by President John F. Kennedy in a proclamation signed in 1962. The intention of this day is to pay tribute to those that have served their community and paid the ultimate price. There are events planned this week including The National Peace Officers' Memorial Service, which is sponsored by the Grand Lodge of the Fraternal Order of Police. Some of the events include a candlelight service and other seminars and events.
This day of remembrance is especially important to me. Many of my family members have served in law enforcement, including my grandfather, both of my uncles and four of my first cousins.
Take a minute any time you have the opportunity to say thank you to the men and women that wear a law enforcement uniform. They deserve our thanks.
