I've always said the folks living in the middle Hudson River Valley (the Warwick, Greenwood Lake, Florida area) know how to have some good. clean wholesome fun. For example, we've always enjoyed the summertime evening "concerts on the lawn" in these cozy communities. We love going to the wineries, the small town celebrations, the Fourth of Julys. Upstaters seem to have a sense that a good seat can include your own lawn chairs, that musicians don't have to be famous, and that you can bring your dog and still be socially acceptable.
May marks the start of the summer season in the Mid-Hudson. Farmer's Markets open up, spring festivals celebrate... Spring! And weather permitting, we'll get to enjoy them. Here's what's happening in the Warwick area:
May 19, Warwick's Annual Winslow "Duck Derby"
The "Duck Derby" is an annual fundraiser for Winslow Therapeutic Center, "Healing with Horses." Contributors pay to sponsor one of hundreds of yellow plastic ducks which are released into the Waywayanda creek in Warwick. First duck to cross the finish line earns its sponson a thousand bucks. Winslow's mission is to provide a full range of medically and educationally approved riding therapy programs in a natural farm environment, and encourage riders with disabilities to reach their highest level of proficiency. For more information about Winslow's programs or the "Duck Derby" call 845-986-6686 or Click here for more info! http://www.warwickinfo.net/events.html#

Arts and crafts fair in the Sugar Loaf style. Loads of local and visiting artists, artisans and crafts-people, local food and drink. A fine meander on a spring weekend. Call 914-420-7823 for details.
May 25-27, Bob Dylan Festival, 12-5 PM, Warwick Valley Winery.
Dylan takes the stage (well, some pretty darn good cover bands anyway) to celebrate the Tamborine Man's 70th birthday (happens to be May 24th). Great food and wine, as always.
