Huge Google Change to Blogging

During the most recent class of the Search series, IMSD Community Manager Chad Hyams covered Blogging for Business. He teaches the best places to blog based on what you are need and know already. He also teaches what to do with your blog posts after you write them and how to get the most from each blog post.

A great part of this class was when Chad revealed a Huge Google Change to Blogging! If you have been in the blogging game for awhile now (which we know you have since you are on ActiveRain) you know that the recommended length of a blog post has been approximately 300-500 words for quite some time now. Well, things have changed! Google recently made an announcement regarding their requirements.

Watch this video clip to find out the Huge Google Change to Blogging!

Thanks for the update! I agree with the majority...will the consumer read a longer post? Some will and some won't..guess we shall see - Google must have a reason.

It sounds like as long as we continue to stay within the 300-500 word range, we should be okay for Google SEO.

While change is inevitable and some changes work better than others, what happens when everyone is doing the same thing?

I think the key thing to walk away with is DO NOT WRITE LESS THAN 300 WORDS. If you write less than that, Google will not consider you to know enough about your topic. I'm not changing what I'm already doing.

For nearly evey blog post I write I make sure I've got at least 300 words so this change won't impact me much.  Good information to know about the top end.

Watched your video and get it. I still think that more than 500 to 600 words is too much for people to take in. Break them up into 300 word or more sections and the readers will love you and hopefully so will Google

Thanks for keeping us in the loop.  I am no expert on blogging or Google, so I we write only to be discovered by Google or because we want to share with agents and consumers?  I am the one with short attention span, therefore when I had much to say, I splitted it into a few parts.  Now, I know not to do that.

Hi, Question. How does Googgle count video blogs. Do you still have to upload 300 words as well as the video???

Thank you for all of your comments, feedback and support.

Some of you sound like you already have it! GREAT! Keep up the good work.

To the rest of you - 300 is the minimum from the results we have tracked with NO maximum. Of course most of you understand that if you are over 600 words you better be writing great material, or split it up to two 300 word blog posts!!!

As for vlogs we are still looking at the details - know this - YouTube transcribes your video so your words can easily be counted!

We are happy to continue filling in the puzzle pieces and hope you will join us for more at
