I shot this photo yesterday when looking at property in Spring Lake subdivision in Huntsville, Texas. This guy was crossing the road. I don't think he was very happy. He hissed at me!
At first I thought this was a snake but now think it is a turtle but I didn't know they hissed. Did it get across the road?
Joni, It must be turtle time because I saw a couple trying to cross the road this weekend too. I even wanted to stop and take a photo but was running late and couldn't.
Joni did you give him a kiss on the beak to see if he would turn into a prince ....... OH YA that is frogs not turtles ...... LOL
Oh I think he is a snapper! I usually just pick them up put them in my back seat and drive them to the nearest bayou or water canal and take them to the waters edge.
Grant: I moved to make room for another driver who wanted to check him out. I was in the road for a good 15 minutes before she drove up. When I left, she was keeping him company!
Jeanne: Me either!
Ellie: Thanks!
Margaret: I didn't either. I was going to pick him up and help him across and he hissed! YIKES! Then... (see 1st comment)...
Christine: See my first comment...
Jane: He was fine until I was finished and tried to pick him up! HA!
Debbie: Yes ma'am!!
RIGHT! No I did not, George!! Rick is my only frog turned prince! HA! Don't tell him I said that!! I AM JUST KIDDING!
Sussie: He was crossing the street FROM the water. Oh! It may have been a she, wanting to lay eggs.
Hi Joni, at first I thought it was a snake but taking a harder look see that it is a turtle. Great shot. Can't believe he would hiss at you Joni :)
Rebecca: I would NOT have gotten that close to ANY snake! LOL! And boy did he (maybe she) HISS!!
I will never forget while visiting relatives in Kansas several decades ago, I saw a tortoise crossing the road. We stopped long enough to plop it onto the floorboard, thinking we'd eventually bring it back to California. Funny thing though, it never made it back. It disappeared out of the car. It's remains a mystery to this day. Somehow, I think my mother must have quietly put it back in the wild. . .:-)
Joni, I can not believe anyone would hiss at you:)) he must have been an old grouchy one:)))
Joni,
I rarely see turtles let along one this close. We saw a huge one up on the beach in Maui when we were there in March but people pretty much stay back from them. Great pic!!!
Joni, I would NOT get this close, but know you have a new lens, so hopefully you weren't that close! What type of snake, I thought it was a turtle first too.
Myrl: LOL! That sure sounds like something a mom would do! 0:O)
Joan: It is NOT a snake. It is a turtle. I wouldn't get within 10 20 30 40 50 feet of a snake! Unless of course it was behind glass! :)
Hi Joni,
This guys definitely has attitude... and then some! I think he's been in his shell to long... he's looking a little pinked around the edges! lol Great shot Joni!!!
Maybe that's his problem! He needs to get out more!! :))) XOXOX Thanks for stopping by, Linda!
Joni, like Rebecca Gaujot, at first I thought this was a snake. I'm glad it is a turtle. what a great photographer you are!
Sharon: No way! I would need a super duper telephoto lens to get a close up of a snake. Like from 3 zillon feet away! LOL!
Patricia: Me too! The hissing was enough of a hint for me! :)
