Rental Prospet is UPSET WITH ME! SHE SAYS You Don't Have That Many Homes for Rent

Property Manager with Gibson Management Group, Ltd.

I've been getting calls from a PA area code for several days, no voicemail left and I have responded via TEXT with a link to my website. 1AM, I am getting an e-mail from the PA rental prospect who has driven to our area to "check out the neighborhood" of a rental home I have on my web site.

In her e-mail, she is FRUSTRATED that she drove for 5 hours only to be turned away because the home is located IN A GATED COMMUNITY.

I'd LIKE to respond that she should have followed my TEXT instructions and viewed the home on my web site BECAUSE there is a link in my rental listing to the OWNER ASSOCIATION'S WEBSITE that discusses the amenities INCLUDING the SECURITY and ENTRY PROCESS.

At the end of her venting e-mail to me....she comments that she is EMPLOYED in the RETAIL customer service area AND that I don't even have that many homes available for rent....HELLO!  THAT'S THE POINT.  Once they are GONE, they are GONE and they are GOING FAST!

Who drives 5 hrs without an appointment to begin with?  That's just silly.

That is kind of ironic, isn't it?  Also, I don't really see why being in a gated community is a bad thing.

Appears that she believes she is the only prospective renter in the area.

What is clear in these exchanges is that the consumer is reluctant to communicate directly with the rental management entity.

In fact, her actions clearly indicate an avoidance of direct communication.

Just arriving is quite common - they say they want to get a "FEEL" for the area; however, her 5 hour drive WITHOUT an appointment was the problem and because she could not get into the community, she could not get the "feel" she wanted....her way did not work for her

Hi Wallace.  I"ll bet her credit report would have reflected poorly.

The lack of rental inventory on my website SHOULD HAVE TOLD HER to be MORE PRO-active in her research BEFORE she got in her car....I'm amused my lack of inventory should reflect on ME and not be indicative of the RENTAL MARKET

Wallace, if she had an interest in a particular property, contacting you for details prior to her arrival would have been appropriate. Wasting gas and time was not the answer. Enjoy your day!

So many potential renters are frustrated at the lack of rentals, and don't know who to blame, so they go the easy route and blame us.

Several words come to mind to describe this woman, but I'm going to refrain from using them in this comment section.  All I can say is "what was she thinking"?  Oh wait, she wasn't..............never mind.

Red Flag. This woman can't or won't read directions, a good indicator of ability toNOT abide by rules.

I love this in a twisted sort of way. It is strange how folks treat property managers, isn't it? I somehow have to wonder if she would treat a dentist or lawyer this way.
