Your Sacramento Fence Has a Few More Years;

The Retaining Wall Needs To Be Repaired.

Retaining wall repair in SacramentoThere are times when the repair that I was called to look at leads to something else. I looked at a wood fence today that the Sacramento management company was considering repairing soon. The fence itself has signs of weathering and a few loose fence boards but not too bad. The fence was not in perfect condition but it could probably hold up a few more years.

There were portions of the fence that had been replaced and repaired a few years ago, but it was not a new fence. The problem that I saw was with the lower retaining wall. This section of the fence had not been touched since the original construction, probably 20 – 25 years ago. The wood on the lower portion has rotted and the soil eroded; it needs to be repaired.

I believe there is a way to repair the retaining wall portion of the wall and in a few years the fence can be replaced and the retaining wall kept intact. The new retaining wall will be replaced using pressure treated lumber to last a very long time.

Tom, I've done this myself where I thought something was a big job it turned out to be a minor fix. I'm sure they will be calling you in the future to replace the fence.

Great idea Tom.  That kind of attitude and approach will tell the customer you are someone they can have confidence in to only tell them what they need and not what YOU want them to do!

Customer for life, could be!

Tom, without a sturdy retaining wall, this fence would be coming down soon.  It's often the underlying problem that is overlooked but is much more important to fix.

Thanks Gita, sounds like you've been through this before.

I'll keep my fingers crossed Michael.

Railroad ties are a building material that will last a very long time Richie, good choice.

Thanks for the kind words Jay. I find this works best for all involved.

You are right Silvia, erosion will make for a weak fence.

Time to fix the problem Debbie.
