WCR Palm Beaches- We Had the Most Remarkable Speaker Today! Let Me Share Her Tips.

At our monthly business meeting of the Women’s Council of Realtors Greater Palm Beach Chapter Christine Kingwe were privileged to have as our speaker Christine King.   Christine is owner and President of Your Best Fit but her story begins almost 17 years ago when she was seriously injured in a Jet-Ski accident.

Unable to feel her legs as she was being removed from the water, Christine and her family did not know if she would ever walk again.  Her lower lumbar vertebrae exploded in the accident  and surgery was performed to remove bone from her hip and replace it in her back.

Christine remembers the doctors telling her parents that had she not been in such incredible shape, she might not have survived the accident.

Christine decided to switch gears and devote her career to helping people get fit.  After surgery, rehabilitation and a lot of positive feedback from others, Christine began her crusade.

Let me tell you that the Christine King I saw walked on her own and had enough energy to fill the room.

I wanted to share some of the tips she gave us:

1. Most of us don’t exercise like we should because “we don’t have enough time.”  Right!  We all did this and it’s invigorating!

Set your timer for 30 seconds.  Now sit tall in your chair. Start the timer, then see how many times you can stand up and sit down again in those 30 seconds.

Go ahead... do it.  I’ll still be here.

Now... do this at every meal.  Plan a time when you’re at your desk and make it a habit.

FYI- the average number of “ups and downs” was around 20.

glass of water2. Drink water!  How much?

You should drink ½ your body weight in ounces per day!  So if you weighed 150 pounds, you’d drink 75 oz of water per day, or about 9 glasses of water.  And if you have an “adult beverage”, you’d want to drink 2 glasses of water to counteract it.

Another tip- drink a cold glass of water with your meal because it will make you eat less.  Take your other glasses at room temperature.

3. For Realtors in particular!  Pack a lunch box with ice packs of prepared healthy foods.  And, since you can’t burn calories without eating food, you need to eat!  She also recommended eating every 3 hours.

4. Breathe!  Take a deep breath and slowly exhale through your mouth.  Do it again!

Thank you Christine for giving us some of your energy.

I'm a big fan of plain old water and have been accused of being a water addict by co-workers with a much less water-centric frame of mind. Plus, when you're drinking that much water, you have less room for sodas and other sugary "power" drinks. I consider a cold Coke a rare treat these days because it's all about the water! So glad you were able to hear from someone so inspirational.

Kathy these are tips most of us need to make part of our daily routines.....or get back into them as the case may be for me this past few days.  Christine sounds like a energetic woman who truly knows what's she's talking about. Thank you so much for sharing this with all of us!

Debbie- I felt really “up” after doing the chair exercise!

Barbara- the positive thing is that she kept her story upbeat.

BarbaraT- she is very motivating and I could tell the other members walked out feeling very uplifted.

Bobbie- you really can if you want to .  I moved my hand weights over to my desk and will try to take a break to work out when I’m at my desk.

Janis- I think we all need a boost or a motivational speaker of some kind.

Carol- I got my big ice tea tumbler that I carry around with me and figured out how many ounces it held then figured out how many of those I need to drink a day.

Silvia- I’m going to take a break after this and do some of the chair exercises.

Dorie- STOP!   Get a stationary chair.. .I don’t want you to hurt yourself.

Wayne- I feel so sluggish when it rains in the morning and I don’t get to write.

BARFF- drinking your water???

Joanna- I can tell by looking at my skin when I haven’t had enough water.

Toni- can you imagine how hard it must have been for her... the rehab. exercises, etc.

Deborah- LOL   Oh gosh.. I can see a post about the AR members who have sprained wrists or bruised bottoms from doing these.

Alexandra- I enjoy a good motivational speaker because you walk out with a new spring in your step.

Kristin- I didn’t know about drinking room temperature water during the day.  Iced water tastes so refreshing.

Scott- we read a book a few years ago about the importance of drinking water and this just makes it even more true.

Michael- exactly-  it really brings it home about keeping your body fit.

Mary Elizabeth- I gave up soft drinks years ago but do like my coffee, club soda and iced tea (besides my water. )

Anna- thanks for the Bananatude feature.   What she suggested is so simple for all of us.  I’m guilty of eating unhealthy foods when I’m on the run.

OK...I did the up and down exercise, and now I'm getting some strange looks from Mr. Austin the next office over from mine. Maybe I should clue the 65 year old guy on to what I'm doing. He could use some exercise.

Next time I'll have to remember to put something under the wheels of my chair.

Kathy,

Christine's story is inspiring! I drink tons of water and I eat a plant base diet so I am hungry every three hours and so I always have a fruit, nuts or bar near by.

Now I have to say this... if I drink half my body weight of 300 lbs in oz of water which is 1.25 gallons, that WOULD BE my exercise routine just to and from the bathroom.  Or is that the point?

I recently downloaded an app called 'drink right'. It calculates the amount based on your age, height and weight and reminds you.  Love it.  N
