Over the last several weeks I've written a lot about white glove clean and organization as it pertains to our Chicago Home Staging business. I had planned on going to a completely different topic until I ran across this photo on Pinterest (curated by Paper Stitch Blog)
After seeing it, I couldn't seem to think of anything else.
Home Staging means thinking about buyers getting naked
I remember watching an episode of The Brady Bunch where Jan was told to imagine the audience in their underwear. She was nervous and somehow this imagery was supposed to help her be able to speak to a large audience. As someone who has spoken to large audiences, I'm not quite sure exactly how that is helpful, but I will say that as a home stager I regularly tell my clients buyers will subconsiously think about how comfortable they are in this space and will notice if it is like-new clean.
One of the reasons that home buyers so often decide to purchase new homes, despite the fact that they typically offer less upgrades and value per square foot, is because no one has ever lived in the home before. It's kind of like deciding to buy a new car versus a used one. It's not always about the maintenance either. Sometimes it's really about cleanliness and stains. Sometimes it's about deciding on a subconscious level whether or not they want to get naked in this space.
Oh and just in case you want a blast from the past Brady moment, here is that scene I mentioned earlier.
