The question often gets asked by those looking to start a career in real estate,” How do I get a Real Estate License?” It’s a rather simple process from start to finish, however many find it less than easy. Like many tasks, breaking it down to a series of manageable steps, takes the otherwise daunting objective, and simplifies the whole thing. Below is a five step outline of how to go about getting a real estate salesperson’s license in Pennsylvania. Since each State is governed differently, there may be drastic difference in your specific State as to getting a license to practice real estate.
The first step is by far the least complicated. You must be at least 18 years old, no exceptions. Step two is you must complete “60 hours of approved Real Estate education”. While this may seem a bit vague, the most common solution is to take approved pre-licensing classes. For step three you must complete a criminal background check from the State in which you reside dated within 90 days of your Real Estate Commission application. For example, if you live in New Jersey, but wish to get a Pennsylvania Real Estate license, you will need to complete your criminal background check through the State of New Jersey.
Step four may be the most difficult for many; pass the two part Real Estate exam. How to pass a Real Estate exam opens up a host of additional questions; however most top notch Real Estate brokerages offer training and possibly even study sessions designed to increase your likelihood of passing both on your first try. The final step, step five, is a multi-part step. Before you can get a Real Estate license from the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, you must first have a licensed Pennsylvania broker sign your Real Estate Commission application. A check for $107 is required by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania to issue a license, and the best way to expedite the application process is to take your application directly to the Commission’s office in Harrisburg.
