The summer season of 2013 will kick off with the 11th ANNUAL RETROFEST FESTIVAL which runs the weekend of May 24-25. It is a nostalgic celebration of years gone by, featuring over 1000 vintage vehicles. The event starts on Friday night May 24 at 7 P.M. when the cars and owners meet at the John D. Bradley Convention Centre on Richmond St. at 7 P.M. The Parade of Cars will proceed down Richmond St. to Bloomfield Rd, turn right to Riverview Line and continue to the Prairie Siding Bridge about 5 miles out of the city along the Thames River on the Raleigh side, then over the Thames River and back the Dover side of the River to Downtown King St. The Parade route is always lined with people who look forward to this spectacular show. The evening will end with a free movie in Tecumseh Park.
Saturday, on both side of Historic Downtown King Street these classic cars will be displayed beginning at 9 A.M. allowing visitors to get a close up look at the cars and talk to the owners about their origins. Food Booths, Special Vendors and Downtown Restaurant Specials add to the fun atmosphere of the day. A new addition this year is the chance to go up in a Hot Air Ballon or experience the thrill of a Zip Line. It is truly a family affair with fun for all ages and even Live Entertainment by 'Puppet Tamer' and Elvis Tribute Artists throughout the day.
Saturday night there is a free concert in Tecumseh Park featuring 'The Trews' thanks to the Culture Factory supported by RM auctions. Go to the retrofest website for more details of this year's 2013 events. My wife and I would not miss this great weekend in our own CHATHAM-KENT and have told many people about it.
