The Kapa'a Sunshine Farmer's Market is held every Wednesday at 3:00pm at the parking lot of the Kapaa New Town Park located across from the National Guard Armory in downtown Kapaa, Kauai.
Local tropical flowers are often a good seller. Displayed here are bunches of Gingers and Heliconias.
Shoppers may come earlier then 3:00pm and reserve food but it is strickly prohibited to exchange monies prior to the 3:00 bell or bulhorn.
The market does not close until the last vendor leaves. So even those nine to fivers, can stop by after "pau hana" (quiting time) and still fine a vendor or two left.
My favorite finds are in season mangos (it's to wet where I live to get a good crop) and the Kamabocha pumpkins that you can stir fry with their skins on.
At the 3:00pm start of the Kapa'a Farmers Market it gets quiet crowed. However all you have to do to avoid the crowds is go after 3:45pm. There's still a lot of produce left especially during the summer seasons. On Kauai our farmer's market's are year round. Winter there will be a variety of lettuces, winter avocados and winter greens. Bananas and Papayas also grow year round. (Those are papayas above in the pic) Prices at the farmer's markets are always reasonable. Kauai living can be affordable, fresh and rewarding, especially when you shop local. Luckily my office Kauai Dreams Realty is located walking distance to the farmers market. I'm able to cut across another business Restore Kauai that recycles construction materials and other large items.
