Buy a Condo, a Corner of a Garage, or a McMansion For $165,000??

Posting a listing on Facebook can result in interesting comments.  One of my FB friends shared my recent listing of a 3 bedroom, 2 bathroom house in Westminster for $165,000 on her page, and these are the comments that popped up:

OMG, in CA you can buy a corner in someone’s garage for this money.

SO funny, and here I am thinking holy wow! That’s so much for such a small place!  Our 4 bed, 2 ba + office + game room (over 2200 sq ft) house will be listed at 135K. Crazy the price differences around the country! Just amazing

In SF 2-bedroom apt is $2,000,000.  In Palo Alto no house is sold under $1 million and it can be a tiny and very old hut. Of course, in rural areas far from SF, you can buy a beautiful home for $300-400 thousands.  I am just talking about SF area.

*gasp!! How does anyone afford that?!? *faint

It’s less than ½ the price of my 2 bedroom (1 bath) co-op in Queens. A nice part of Queens, and I have a nice view … but almost none of the listed amenities.

When people move from place to place in the USA, they can experience sticker shock.  Sometimes, it's a good shock and sometimes not so good.

When I get someone who wants to buy a house in the Denver to Boulder area after moving here from most southern or mid-western states, I prepare myself to take some time with them, because I know they will need time to absorb the facts of the situation and come to grips with reality.

When I find myself working with someone from a more expensive region, I try to help them understand that every deal is going to look like a bargain, but they still need to make a good decision because one day they likely will be trying to sell the place.

Selling homes is never boring!

In my current neighborhood $165 for a house is unheard of -so when one in that price range that is livable goes on the market they are bombarded with offers.  Most are $250 or more.

That's what I like about AR - just like Facebook, you get input from all over the place.
