"An Anniversary To Remember!"

Westminster, CO - Today is a day for me to remember what happend exactly 8 years ago.  Not that I really do need a reminder, but I will share it with others!

On May 25, 2005, while playing "Men's Doubles" in the USTA Tennis League match in the Parker area, southeast of Denver, during the 1st set I was having a heart attack.  NO, it was not how bad I was playing, it was an actual heart attack!!

After, an eventful ride with the paramedics, who got lost in the school parking lot while trying to get me to the Hospital, I did finally make it into surgery in about 45 minutes after the 911 call was made!!  I was very impressed, while having a very discomforting chest and forearms pain!!  We arrived at Skyridge Medical Center, they were fantastic folks, there!!

"A Heart Attack Event"

No, it was not heart burn, this time, as I informed my Wife !!  I had the "widow maker" artery closed 100%, with insignifacant issues with the rest of the arteries.

Cardiologists said I may have some heart damage, but to this day, there is NONE, and I can still prove to the rest of the public that "I DO have a Heart!"  The Surgeon tried to assure me that there may be days of depression and that is normal.  I informed him "I was already DEPRESSED, I was losing 2-4 in the first set when this happened!!"

I really did not want anyone to think I would go to THIS extent to get out of a tennis match I was losing!!

In closing, please remember to take an Aspirin a day, at least 81mg, to assist in reducing the affects of the Heart Attack Event!!

Dan - thanks for sharing your story. Very scary stuff - and I'm so glad your heart attack event had a postive outcome. I also appreciate your humor about it too. Naw, I would never believe you'd conjur up such a serious medical issue to get out of a losing match. :)

Have a great day in Denver.

Thank you Debb, and you are right, it is a scary event.  Especially, when I never had any warning prior to that day!!

Hi Dan, We have a lot in common.. I had a blockage of 99% in the same artery and lesser amounts in others. It was fixed and I am doing great. I did have a little depression for awhile but got through it.

I thought maybe you ran into that woman in the ad and keeled over from your heart pounding. Glad you're still alive, DAn, and hanging in there. Signs of heart attack are not always obvious, and especially not in women!

Elizabeth, you are so correct about the lack of signs or the inability to really understand them when they may occur.

Dan, that would have been so scary, and glad all worked out and you are still able to talk about it!    I will need to remember the aspirin.
