Century 21 Crest Real Estate will help guide you through the many community choices available to North New Jersey home buyers.  From First time buyers to scale down buyers, there is a choice for everyone.  One such community is Packanack Lake. Packanack Lake is an exclusive community in Wayne, New Jersey, Passaic County -located approximately 30 minutes northwest of New York City.

The Packanack Lake website provides information and details about this great location: Today Packanack is a thriving suburban community with two beaches and an active lifestyle of approximately 1,500 homes. Packanack Lake Country Club and Community Association offers swimming, golf, tennis, fishing, boating, youth and adult sports as well as many special interest clubs to it's members. Packanack is a wonderful community to live in, raise a family, make lasting friendships, enjoy recreational facilities as well as socialize.

The Pacquanac Indians first farmed, fished and hunted in this area. The tribe is remembered in the very name Packanack that is said to mean, "land made clear for cultivation".

In 1780 this was farming country and marshlands. Close by were the headquarters of General George Washington at the Dey Mansion and Major-General Marquis de Lafayette at the Van Saun House. These historic landmarks can still be seen today.

In 1925 Mr. Joseph T. Castles purchased 26 farms or approximately 700 acres of the area and began laying the groundwork for the development of a year-round resort community.

What we know today as Packanack sat on two ridges running in roughly a north-south direction separated by a valley of marshland. In 1928 it would be cleared of trees and brush, blocked at the south with an earth and clay dam to form Packanack Lake. Roads were built. Water and sewer mains were laid and a sewage disposal system constructed. The real estate firm of Packanack Lake, Inc. was formed; work began on the Clubhouse as well as seventeen log cabins and small Cape Cod homes.  A home that recently went under contract (May 2013) in Packanack Lake was listed for $479,999, a Colonial with 4 Bedrooms, 2.5 Baths, 2 car garage and a level yard.  That family is staying in Packanack Lake and in fact is moving one street closer to the Lake.

Golf Club

In the Spring of 1963 the Packanack Lake Golf Association was formed. It was determined that values of homes in Packanack would be enhanced by the presence of a golf course and a 9 hole golf course would be built. Early in 1964 the Packanack Golf Club Corporation was formed and on April 7 work commenced. The course opened for play on May 8, 1965.

There have been many changes since the course first opened. It now has multiple tee areas that makes the original 9 hole course feel and play like 18 and a computerized sprinkler system keeps the greens in better shape then many other exclusive golf clubs in the area. The new golf clubhouse has been in use since 1988, at 3,500 square feet it includes locker rooms, pro shop with an adjoining 575 square foot patio.

In addition to these outstanding private facilities, members also enjoy a casual atmosphere from the moment they enter the grounds. After a game, enjoy a libation in our dining room overlooking Packanack Lake.

Our backyard extends to untouched conservation land, some of the most scenic spots in Packanack sits just minutes from your doorstep waiting for you to enjoy a few holes
