Jubilation Day Brings Gospel Music to City Hall Concert Pavilion
Gospel music, the uniquely American art form that gave rise to jazz, blues, R&B, and rock and roll, will be celebrated in all of its glory as the City of Gaithersburg presents the 7th Annual Jubilation Day Gospel Extravaganza.
On Saturday, June 1, 2013, from 3:30 to 8:30 p.m., the Concert Pavilion at City Hall will host performances of all styles of Christian music and worship by local and regional choirs, choruses, quartets, dancers, and soloists. The celebration will also feature food and crafts for purchase. Commemorative t-shirts are available for advance purchase for $12, or $14 at the event.
This year’s featured performers include:
Life’s Atonement, founded in 2001, is a contemporary, traditional and southern gospel group that ponders life's experiences, deliverance and salvation. As originators and arrangers of their own music, the group has gathered positive support and confirmation for their ministering to the hearts and souls of people. Inspiring performances in the area have included the White House, the Metropolitan Police Awards Ceremony and The Baltimore Sabbath Convention.
The Chosen Vessels, a local group from Pleasant Grove Christian Community Church of Damascus, MD, is under the leadership of Nathan Cooper, Jr. The group was inspired by God to praise his name in song. They have been singing together for more than seven years and love winning souls for Christ. Most requested songs, which they have performed throughout Maryland, Virginia and Washington, DC, include “Near the Cross,” “He Can and He Will,” “Long as I Got Jesus,” and “Good Bye World.”
Gaithersburg’s Concert Pavilion is located at 31 South Summit Avenue in front of City Hall. Admission to Jubilation Day is free. The outdoor venue features lawn seating with limited chairs. Please feel free to bring your own chair or blanket. The event is sponsored in part by Allied Party Rentals, Backyard Inflatables Inc., Blessed 24:7 Gift Shop, S.E.A. Reflections, Subway of Olde Towne, and Victor Litz Music Center. For more information please visit www.gaithersburgmd.gov/jubilation or call 301-258-6350.
