Reading A Post and Remembering the Story of
"Living A Dream"
Reading today's posts was an enlightening experience and made me remember a beautiful incident for me that was just in passing really. I was reading Kathy Streib's "What I learned This Week at Active Rain - May 19 - May 25", this morning and hit upon Richie Naggar's post " The meaning of a Burger and Fries", and was struck by the simplicity and his thoughtful presentation. One of the comments that was made by Mark Delgado was regarding how he replied when people would ask how he was doing. He responds with something along the lines of "Just glad to be here!". I am not surprised at the shock some people feel when that is said to them.
Living The Dream: I was shopping at a different Costco than I normally shop at and was surprised at the indifference I saw in the store not only from employees (which is unusual), but the customers that were shopping at this particular Costco. So many rude people and in the store I normally shop at that just does not happen. People actually smile and are friendly, they do not try and push you out of the way. We finished our shopping, loaded the car and I took the cart back to the cart area to deposit it.
A young man who worked at Costco was putting the carts together to take back to the store. I looked at him, smiled big and asked him how he was that day. He said to me with a returned big smile and said, "I am living the Dream!" Intrigued, I asked him what his dream was and if he would share. He said most people just starred back at him in disbelief that someone would be actually living their dream, yet when I thought of the customers inside the store I understood.
Then he explained why he was living his dream. He was in Eastern Washington visiting with his Grandfather, who happens to own thousands of acres of farm land around Spokane. They were walking the fields and came across two very old cars that were just sitting there. His Grandfather said he had forgotten all about these two cars (classics I might add) and asked his grandson if he would like to have them. You see this young man restores old cars in his spare time and was ecstatic when his Grandfather gifted them to him. This is why he was living his dream. Priceless.
We all have our dreams and some are so simple, like the explanations of things which were in Richie's post. When this young man told me his story, I could not help but see the humbleness, excitement, fulfillment and pleasure this young man had in his whole being. There was such a bright light surrounding him that it is hard to explain. His simple story of "Living His Dream", and his willingness to share it, gave me more in that moment than I can say, and I am still carrying the smile with me today as I think of him.
That is what life is all about. Living the Dream, regardless of how large or small.
