There are many schools in the Amarillo Area, the Colleges and Universities are Amarillo College, which is a two-year community college, Wayland Baptist University, Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center at Amarillo, School of Pharmacy, and Texas Tech University at Amarillo, West Texas A&M University located in Canyon. There are many opportunities in Amarillo to get a higher education and obtain a degree.

The public Schools in Amarillo are mostly handled by the Amarillo Independent School District (AISD) and Canyon Independent School District (CISD). The AISD operates 4 high schools, 9 middle schools, 36 elementary schools, one specialty high school, and an Alternative school. While, the CISD has 2 high schools, 2 junior high/intermediate schools, and 4 elementary schools in Amarillo, not including the schools in Canyon, TX. The high schools are Randall High, Amarillo High, Tascosa High, Caprock High, and Palo Duro High School. There are also these school districts in the Amarillo Area: River Road, Highland Park, and Bushland Independent school Districts. Nonreligious and Christian denomination private schools in Amarillo include Ascension Academy, Holy Cross Catholic Academy, San Jacinto Christian Academy, Amarillo Montessori Academy, St. Andrew's Episcopal School, St. Joseph's Catholic School and St. Mary's Catholic School. Amarillo takes pride in their education to the students across the city and have very good tests score results for the mandatory State test exams given every year.
