I don’t know about you, but there is one word that just used to send shivers down my spine and invoke fear and loathing by its mere mention. Dentist. Yuk!  I mean who wants to go to the dentist, who really wants to go to the "Ol' Jawbreaker, Captain Hook, Dr. Pain"?

Well that has all changed for me since moving to Palm Valley.  Located in the same complex as my favorite coffee shop, nail shop and jewelry store is Millennium Dental Arts. The name itself is a good indicator of what to expect.  Dr. Daniel Wolter AKA “Doc” has to be the “rock star” of dentists, he is just flat out good.  From the moment I walked through the front door I knew this was not my old dentist.  As I enter a chic modern reception area and get greeted by maybe the nicest person on earth, receptionist Kelly, she instantly put me at ease.  Kelly made me feel welcome and a part of their family.  No more do I sit quivering in the waiting room dreading that sinister door to open and be summoned back into the dungeon of agony.  Kelly washes that all away.

Once I entered the core of the facility I was amazed by all the hi-tech gadgetry that will be put to use to ensure there are no unwanted surprises hiding in my mouth.  From the latest in X-Ray technology to individual photos of my teeth, it all goes to the ultimate in leading edge dentistry.

Then I was there (doomful trumpet blast plays in my head) “the chair”.  This room has all the hi tech stuff right out of the latest Star Trek movie.  TV, computers, lasers and my own personal remote control (sweet).

Enter Christine the hygienist and time for my semiannual tooth torture where she pulls out that evil hook thingy that for sure is going to rip a gigantic hole in my cheek and gum when she slips.  Much to my surprise, that just isn’t the case with Christine, she is a gem.  The procedure is one now that truthfully I am always disappointed when it’s done, (I’ll get back to this thought).  Christine is a master at not letting me see the tool of torture (I know it’s there Christine), but you know what, she’s also a master at not prying and digging and tugging and ooh no she’s going to slip any time now.  Christine also does not blah blah blah “Carol you should be flossing more” blah blah blah, whatever.

Now the star of the show, Doc enters the room and takes me on a tour of my mouth with his tooth cam.  This pencil like gadget shows me what he is seeing and talking about on the TV screen above me.  Wow Doc!!  What is that giant hole there, we better get that fixed don’t you think?

Doc will lay out a plan for the next visit and a future schedule that he recommends to keep my smile radiant J.  He is also very amusing as he tours my mouth showing me what good work looks like as well as bad and his suggestions on how to correct everything.  It’s not a hard sell and he explains it clearly in terms that I understand.  In short, Doc rocks.

Yes let me get back to Christine and why I’m always left wanting more.  She has amazing stories and is a great story teller.  To get her started just ask her how many Aerosmith concerts she’s been to.  At my last visit she just returned from Australia and her 77th, 78th, and 79th shows.  Her goal is 100.  She has met Steven Tyler 10 times now, yes she could be the only hygienist/groupie in the world.

Finally, Millennium Dental Arts uses all the latest communications technology, incorporating email to set up and remind me of my appointment.

Thank you Doc and your wonderful staff for alleviating my fear of the dentist.
