New! Talk to Google: Google Talks Back

Real Estate Technology with Independent Consulting

For the busy agent on the go, life just got easier: Google has just announced "conversational search functionality" in their Google Chrome browser that lets you literally ask a question to Google - and if the answer is simple, the search page will speak & display the answer back to you.

The new feature is based on a combination of voice-recognition and voice-synthesis technology that isn't new, but is finding new applications as more and more people move to mobile technologies like smartphones. While the ability to "speak your search" has been available through web-browser plugins in programs like Dragon Naturally Speaking for nearly a decade now, it's always been easier to simply type the query.

That's changing with mobile devices, though - life on the road means using an on-screen keyboard, which can be more difficult to type with than a traditional one, and this hindrance gives new life to voice-recognition apps. Of course, it helps that advances in processing power & voice-recognition technology have also improved over the last decade, and are now commonplace in apps like Apple's "Siri".
