Tips For Getting Started in Video. Video marketing is a little scary for some because it has so many facets. Here are some things to consider if you have been toying with the idea of giving it a try.
What type of camera?
Any type that will do videos will work. Little compact cameras. smartphones, iPad, camcorders or DSLR cameras will work. The point is just start shooting and you can change or improve the camera quality later. You can voice (talk) while you are shooting but be aware of background noise and your camera's microphone quality. If it isn't good, do a voiceover at your computer during the editing process.
What should you video?
I believe it should be something of interest. A slow boring walk through of a house will not do it in my opinion. But pointing out special features could be interesting. Interview a client, take a video of a neighborhood or how about featuring a local point of interest? Use your imagination.
What about the speed, length, sound, etc?
My number one recommendation is keep it short, not over a couple of minutes but shorter is even better. Move the camera very slowly and steadily. Talk normally and offer information that is not obvious in the photo. Have a call to action in your video at least at the end on the screen.
Editing doesn't have to be difficult.
If you have an iPad or iPhone or Mac use iMovie. If you use a PC, I recommend Windows Live Moviemaker to edit your video. I like creative transitions between sets and text banners here and there. I also like a little background music but be careful with copyright infringement or choosing music that doesn't compliment the video. Put a catchy title at the beginning.
Once the video is created
I post on my YouTube video channel. Remember that YouTube and Google are related so you will get a boost to your SEO for posting here. Also post it on social media channels. That is one reason why shorter is better because people don't want to stay tuned for a long video.
Think outside the box.
What would interest you? Select topics and the delivery that would interest you. You can choose to be in it or not. Sometimes I think a little intrigue is good by just showing a body part like an arm and hand, feet walking, back shot of your body, etc. It keeps people interested. Still shots just are not as interesting.
Tips for Getting Started in Video. Make a plan and do just do it. Get a friend or family member to help you the first few times. It will get easier and easier.
Here is an example of a voiceover video.
