Fair Parade in Searcy AR along about the 70's? Curly hair was in style.

Searcy Ar fair parade

Here is an old picture taken on East Race Street (you can tell me where) and I am wondering about the date. There are several interesting things in the picture.

The girls are most likely fair queen entries and the sign if it were readable would tell us who they were.

I also like the hippy-type van in the background with a boy sitting on the top of it for a good view.

Girls wore lots of curly hair during this period.  All four in the car are all curled up!

Brings back a lot of memories, doesn't it?

Ms. Barbara in the 70's I had little hair left and as time went by I had less to make due.  by the end of the 70's I had none.  I do remember the way the ladies fixed theirs however.

James, you should love the chosen men's hair style now.  So often young men are actually shaving off all their hair!  You are right in style.

In 1978 'The Pantry' was in the building that is shown as 'Searcy Battery Warehouse' in your photo . Therefore it is likely that the picture shown in your blog was in the early to mid 80's instead. I don't recall when The Pantry closed but it seems it was around for a few more years. I used a pay phone at 'The Pantry' during the summer of '78 to help in my attempts to locate a home to rent, which proved to be successful.
