Working With an Assistant - Two Heads Are Better Then One

By
Home Stager with Redesigned Spaces - Northern Virginia

A local Color and Interior Design Consultant Marja Chapman of Magic Interiors and I have struck up a partnership that is working well for the both of us.  While we each have our own separate companies when we have the need for an assistant we hire one another.  We often comment that it is much easier with two people who are creative and know what they are doing as there really isn't a design dilemma we can't solve.   Not to mention the woman power needed to move large pieces of furniture.  In fact we have amazed ourselves more then once with the items the two of us have been able to move together.

I know when I have a staging job I can send Marja to a room and she can stage it herself without my input and she knows she can ask the same of me.  Of course, the person who got the call for the job makes the most money and has the final say but it is certainly nice to share the work and the creative process with a peer not to mention bouncing business ideas off of one another on how to move our respective business forward.

Above is an example of a redesign for living that I recently assisted Marja on.  This particular home owner collects antiques and quilts and it was important to her that we use as much as her furnishings as possible.  No new items were bought for the redesign, only the homeowners items were used.  In fact our biggest challenges were to remove several of the homeowner's beautiful antique pieces to create a more livable space and creatively display the many quilts she collects and cherishes.

Sandra, I couldn't agree with you more.  I also have a few staging friends who have their own businesses but we do partner in the same way.  As I have told them, I would rather work on your job than not be working. I think it happens a lot more than is revealed.  Thanks for the great blog.

Sharon - I feel the more rooms you redesign and stage the better you are in the long run.  Plus everyone brings different ideas and skill sets to the table to I am always learning something or looking at something with a new view.

Marci - I decided not to go the partner route at least for the moment but I love the fact I have a trained person to help with the stagings and redesigns.

It is great to have someone you can bounce ideas off of, help when the timeframe is short or the job is BIG!  It's great that you found someone in your area to work with!  I think more people could take a lesson from you and Marja!

I'm your Professional Real Estate Marketing VA!

I love having a partner!  When I changed my business model from a sole proprietorship to a limited liability partnership, it was by far the best move I've made in a long time.  Not only is she available for our clients when I need to handle family situations or I'm sick or on vacation, but it is wonderful to have someone to talk about the business with who truly understands what in the world you're talking about!

Glad you have that in Marja!

Thanks for stopping by Renae.  While we are not business partners it sure is nice to know I can call her to help me or if I am not able to make a job can refer her and know the client will be well taken care of.

Yes! I always love to hear teamwork. This is something that I feel we lack in the Real Estate Business. Great post.
