Surprises and ghosts in my garden

By

Good evening everyone-It is funny sometimes when you plant a lot of flower bulbs, plants and shrubs you forget that you planted them. Well at least I apparently have. Maybe I am getting old and forgetful or I just lost track of all that I actually planted. Whichever it is I had another surprise in my garden. Actually 11 surprises.

The bed along the pool fence had these growing in them and for the life of me I don't remember planting them. I will have to find the paper I wrote what I planted in there to see if they just magically appeared but most likely not. They are beautiful but they were doubled up in the bed by the pool fence so I transplanted them into the bed in the bird feeder area.

Also once I realized what they were I still didn't know what color they were. When they got their blooms but hadn't opened yet they looked orange. There was room for 12 so I bought a orange one to fill the last spot. Imagine my surprise when they weren't orange but actually this color

Well I couldn't have one orange one in a bed with all this color so I transplanted over to the bed by the pool where I took these out of because there was also orange ones in there but not doubled and not 11. I also found another one of these so now I have 12 of this color in this bed.

The same day I picked up the orange one I saw these but didn't notice the name, just knew they were a pretty color. Also the ones in the bed above hadn't opened and I was still under the assumption they were orange and I liked this color too so I got 3 of them.  It is kind of funny now that I actually had 11 and didn't know it. These three in the second pic are called ghost asiatic lilies. Don't have a clue why they have that name.

Now what I am wondering but not really sure is if they are all the same kind. The top pic with the 12 would be from last year and these I just bought. To me they are a slightly different color but what do you think. The third pic is a close-up of the 12 I had.

The life of a gardener is fun and never dull and in my case everchanging and growing. Now this last pic is the orange one I bought. It will fit in much better with the other orange ones which already bloomed and lost their petals.

Funny thing is even the orange ones look different but then again I bought these last year as well.  There was six of these in this bed by the pool fence.

Well, Have I confused you yet? LOL

Hi Sharon,

It's great to see you long awaited garden in bloom.    About a month ago, we had our last snow in Colorado Springs.  Then I shifted into a crazy planting mode.  I was confident that I could remember where I planted each of the wonderful purchases that I spent significant amount of time deciding upon.

However, I've already forgot which one was which.....

Great post!  I can relate all too well.

It is so fun Sharon that you are planting so much that you even forget what you planted. But the result is very nice nevertheless, brilliant color and lots of variety. Thanks for taking time to present this all to us.... Gorgeous as always. As the summer progresses it will be amazing what else you bring out with all that color and your green thumb.

Hi Sharon,

I have one of those orange plants that just grew up this spring. The previous owner planted bulbs but they did not come up for a few years but pretty now. I have iris, Easter lilies, tiger lilies, white lilies, and lots of colored one like yours in a multitude of colors of gold, orange, and burgundy. I like your ghost lilies. Sometimes they pop up and other times they don't. I like this one as it started out blue and turned purple but pictures almost white but it is really purple.* Sharon you are such a spectacular gardener.

Wanda-Indeed it is and a nice surprise. Look forward to your pics.

Alexandra-They do indeed especially the row of 12. They do look slighter deeper in color to me than the others.  I thought my explanation might be a bit confusing so glad it wasn't and a delight indeed.

Myrl-What a nice surprise to find free bulbs.

Christine-That is funny but I can tell you from experience some tubers are hard to figure out.

Kathy-Thank you and I am enjoying it too. Hard work but definitely rewarding

Sondra-Nice to see you. You missed the tulips in bloom. They were a sensation. Funny thing is that I wrote down what I planted in each bed which is why this is such a surprise. I knew I had planted lilies in some of the beds but honestly didn't remember these or doubling up the bulbs. It was way too crowded in the bed. They are much better suited where they are now. Hard to believe you had snow just a month ago. Glad your weather is better and you can plant. Enjoy and share

Roger-I totally agree. Are you back home yet?

Joni-It was a great surprise and even though I love orange lilies this color is gorgeous and fit better with the other plants which are red.

Gary-It is fun and this was definitely a wonderful surprise. There will be more to come so stay tuned to this gardening channel. LOL

Kristin-Thank you for the compliment. I am passionate not sure I would say spectacular. I love variety and will have much more if the seeds I plant sprout. My irises were somewhat of a disappointment as only a few bloomed and only lasted a few days. Yours are beautiful and thank you for sharing them.

Sharon - I have those same Lillie's - a gift from my son from a couple of years ago and they have such sentimental meaning. You garden is beautiful and you truly have a green thumb. I can't wait to see what's popping up in my garden this year because like you I forget everything I've planted!

Kristine-They are indeed beautiful and that is so nice your son bought them for you. You raised a good son and I can see why you have those sentimental reasons for them. I do have a passion not as sure about the green thumb. You will have to share your photos.

Beautiful Sharon!  I actually just bought (fake) ones like the red ones to put in a mixture of others in a vase in my bathroom.

I like lilies, but so many people don't. They get associated with funerals and then people won't put them in their flower beds.

Than-Many type of flowers are at funeral to never plant them because of that reason would limit a lot of beauty you can have in your garden. I am for as much beauty as possible.

Lillies are fascinating plants.  They always remind me of my grandmother who tended her lily beds so carefully.
