Next year McKinney will open it's doors to the district's 5th Middle School - Cockrill Middle School. What this means to many residents and parents is that the school zones will once again be playing musical chairs. There will be 2 meetings about the new zoning for the public. The first is tonight, February 11 at 6 pm at Faubion Middle School. The second meeting is Wed. Feb. 13 at Dowell Middle School. They will discuss the preliminary student redistribution plan.
Here is what MISD has in mind:
All of Eddins Elementary moves from Scott Johnson MS to Dowell MS
All of Wilmeth Elementary moves from Scott Johnson MS to Cockrill MS
All of Minshew Elementary south of Hwy. 380 moves from Scott Johnson to Cockrill MS
All of Slaughter Elementary moves from Dowell to Cockrill
In order to provide relief for Evans, a portion of Malvern Elementary will move from Evans MS to Cockrill MS
The portion of Burks Elementary that is north of Hwy. 380 moves from Faubion MS to Scott Johnson MS
School zones certainly play an important role when deciding where to purchase a home. According to MISD, If growth projections remain as accurate as they have in the past, there will not need to be any additional redistribution of middle schools for the next 5 years.
