More From Wetumpka, Alabama

The bridge in Wetumpka, Alabama is one that I would enjoy getting to see on a daily basis. I'll bet it never looks the same twice. The river is the Coosa and when I was traveling there earlier in the spring I saw several signs showing that in the 1920s during heavy rains, the river rose 37 feet. I can't even begin to imagine the terrifying power that river has in those conditions.

If you ever travel to Montgomery, Alabama make sure you take the 20 minute ride to explore Wetumpka. Just outside the town is also the largest meteor crater in the U.S, more that 5 miles wide! Sadly, we didn't get a chance to see that. I'd probably still be there taking pictures!

Very cool bridge Mona, I'd like seeing that daily also.  Thanks for the little history lesson too.

Hi Mona,

When I was doing a "consulting stint in Alabama" I think I may have been across this bridge. I did'nt even know the largest crater was in the area. I would have went. They need to advertise it more. i did'nt even have a clue it was there.

Have a great day in the Dillsboro area.

Best, Clint McKie
