Located in Rockingham County New Hampshire, Newfields is a small town with a population of approximately 1600 people. Located along the shores of the Squamscott river, Newfields abuts the towns of Newmarket New Hampshire, Exeter New Hampshire, Stratham New Hampshire, and Epping New Hampshire.
First incorporated in 1849, the town was originally called Newfield Village. Newfield Village was originally just a passage way from Stratham to Exeter with a bridge that was built to cross the Squamscott River. Newfields has always been an important part of the Seacoast New Hampshire history because of it's location at the mouth of the Squamscott River. The river, and the bay it empties into, "Great Bay", has always been an integral part of commerce between the cities of Portsmouth, Dover, Durham, and Greenland.
Today, many signs of the "Old Town" feel of Newfields still exist. Many of the historic Colonial and Federal homes still exist along the downtown village. With the change of the overall population of the New Hampshire Seacoast, and economic boom of recent, Newfields has become a town desirable to move to. While the traditional, historic homes still exist, new construction and rural land development has brought several new neighborhoods to the community.
