Peonies in June in Red Hook NY

Peonies in June are such a welcome sight in my Red Hook NY garden, the fragrance, the delicate petals are things I look forward to. However like most good things they don't last forever.

Peonies come in so many different colors, so you can literally pick the colors that appeal to you. Some homeowners create a Peony garden with a variety of colors and the landscape in June is certainly enhanced by these lovely fragrant flowers.

Tips to get the best results from your Peonies

To get the most out of your Peonies in June you should provide some support for the plant long before they start flowering because the large flowers will pull the plant down and all the flowers will be on the ground.

In the fall or early spring it is advisable to cut the plant back. By doing this you will have healthier plants ready to produce an abundance of flowers during the next season.

If Peonies are not presently a part of your garden you might want to give them a try, somehow I know you would not regret such a decision.

Peonies Photography

Today while walking through my garden I couldn't help admiring the Peonies so I took some photos and I do hope you too will find Peonies photography captivating.

Hi, Jennifer...thanks for sharing your pictures. I don't have Peonies growing, so it was nice to enjoy your flowers. Here's a bit of local trivia. We have a small mountain town in our county called Paonia. It seems the founder's favorite flower was the Peony. That's what he wanted to name the town. But because of a spelling error by the post office, it came out somewhere as Paonia. The second name stuck and the town is called Paonia to this day. Say... Pay O Knee A.

Jennifer, these shots of peonies are gorgeous, but wish the smell would come through too!   They do add a lot to landscaping this time of year when a seller has their home on the market.

Actually I didn't get any peonies this year I think the hydrangeas are blocking them out.

I share your love of peonies.  I've found that by choosing varieties with different bloom there can actually be a pretty long season.
