This Saturday in Five Points, Denver the Juneteenth Musical Festival will be taking place all day and will be free to all attendants. Being in Denver property management we love when these sorts of events come up, as they allow us to stop by and make a quick cameo before we are off to show more houses. Commemorated in cities across the nation and around the world, Juneteenth is a cultural event celebrated by diverse people of all colors, backgrounds, and nationalities joining hands to mark the ending of slavery and the beginning of African American independence in the United States. Denver, Colorado’s Juneteenth Music Festival is one of the nation’s largest celebrations, drawing in record numbers of festival-goers and participation. The two-day event features live performances, art and cultural exhibitions, and food and commercial vendors; with partners and sponsors ranging from community support networks and organizations, to local and international companies.
There are several huge events happening within this festival. The first of which is a Miss Juneteenth Music Festival Pageant, calling for all young ladies, from high school freshman to 21 years in age, that exemplify the highest commitment to scholarship, service and their community. There will also be a Juneteenth Art Walk, which lets the community highlight their visual arts achievements. As a part of the Juneteenth Music Festival, the Art Walk celebrates the artists’ creativity from across the region. The Youth Engagement Zone Launch is a collaboration that connects schools, community agencies, parents, youth and residents in a concerted effort to support widespread youth civic engagement through a sustainable, integrated system for service learning. They will be present all throughout the festival grounds with more information and programs you can be a part of. One of the biggest attractions will be the Annual Juneteenth Parade, where 2,500 parade participants, including Mayor Michael Hancock, Chief of Police Robert White, Emmy Nominated actress Alfree Wodard, state and local political officials, VIPs and community leaders will all be moving down the streets. The festivities will end with a performance by The Ohio Players. There is quite a lot to take in this weekend at this festival and if you’re in Denver property management you know you are all over the city during those days. We will likely be able to stop at both the Juneteenth festival and the Greek festival on the same day.
