Boston Suburb for Young Families: West Roxbury

West Roxbury is NOT a suburb.  It looks like a suburb but it is part of the City of Boston.  West Roxbury is a popular destination for young families in trading a small apartment or condo for a house.  The area is known for the easy commute into the City and the friendly neighborhoods.

Living in West Roxbury

When walking around West Roxbury, you’ll meet those who were born, raised and now raise their children here.  Westies are loyal.

In the middle of the 19th century, West Roxbury was home to Brook Farm, an experimental Utopian community with notable members.

Why People Live Here?

No longer Utopian, but still quite comfortable, this neighborhood is hip enough to attract young families.  Yet there is something old fashioned here, and much of the population has been here a long time.

Centre Street offers a variety of excellent restaurants, the local branch of Boston Public Library and everything you possibly need in daily life.  The commuter rails stops three times in West Roxbury an then dashes off to town.

Young families enjoy the neighborhood for the balance of City and suburb.   The houses are pretty; the lawns are small but well maintained.  Children play in the streets and neighborhood barbeques are common.  Yet, you are still in Boston!
