Showing Homes in the Rain in Cheshire CT, Nothing is Hidden

I was showing homes in Cheshire CT today for the second day with a client relocating into the area. Not much choice as they are in for a short time and need to see homes so they can make their decision.  We were looking at some reasonably well priced homes, and all were well presented.

We probably saw more than some home owners wanted us to see as we have been experiencing a N'oreaster style of storm that would be a huge blizzard if it were cold. Almost 3 inches of rain in less than 24 hours and better than 7 inches within the past 10 days.

wet basement

Issues in the homes can surface in a way that does nothing to help the home. Puddled water, down spouts clogged, chimney soot seeping into the cleanouts, and of course dripping water from roof penetrations not properly sealed.

We went into a home and the living area was immaculate, not the same when we went into the basement bac where the furnace was located. Seepage through the foundation and the stains on the walls spoke to a history.

I'm not a big fan of the rain, but when showing homes, it is welcome.

I love these situations when I am buying houses to flip. Most of the times these problems are correctable. Tough when showing to a retail buyer.

Ed, all the rain that we are having is going to reveal any water problems that a basement may have, and they can't hide it.

Ed, I remember being at a home inspection the day after a heavy rain...turns out there was a foot and a half of water in the crawl...rain saved the day!
