When I was in High school I thought Chemistry is super boring. If my teacher would have told us about the recent innovations that enable the sustainable technologies that are revolutionizing the way we generate and store energy, his class would have been much more interesting!
Solar power relies on silicon-based chemistry & innovative new plastic solar panels which these days are poised to reach the mass residential market. Wind power turbine blades are made using plastics and chemical additives which are helping deliver renewable energy to our nation’s electricity grid. Since 1974 the business of chemistry has immensely helped reduced energy consumption by more than half (based on unit per output).
These three energy sources—Domestic natural gas from shale formations , energy efficiency, and energy recovery from plastics can ALL help America reach energy security and environmental goals & at the same time, these energy sources will also promote growth in America’s chemistry industry and create opportunity for a broad range of industries, while at the same time driving the creation of new jobs.
When it comes to saving energy and producing cleaner energy you can count me in!
