Time Management for Real Estate Agents - the Favorit-est Tips!

By
Education & Training with Sell with Soul

Last week we did a teleseminar show in the SWS Virtual Studio called "Time Management for Real Estate Agents" (catchy, eh?) where we shared tips and strategies for getting the most out of those 24 hours we all have in which to get stuff DONE. At the end of the show we polled the audience to see which of the dozen+ tips we shared were the Favorit-est, and this is what they told us:

Favorit-est Tip #1: Use a white board (dry-erase) to list your long-term projects. Put the board somewhere in your office where you don't see it every day, but glance at it from time to time to see how you're doing. You'll be surprised how many of your projects get DONE, some without your even realizing you did them!

Favorit-est Tip #2: When prioritizing your day, always put your clients first, ahead of your prospecting. If you focus on caring for your current clients instead of hunting down your next ones, you may never have to formally prospect another day in your career. Seriously.

Favorit-est Tip #3: When tackling your to-do list, do everything that will take you five minutes or less to complete, regardless of its importance. Once those little to-do's are DONE, your mind will be much clearer and better able to focus on the subject of the next Favorit-est Tip...

Favorit-est Tip #4: Get the ugly to-do's done first (after you've handle the five-minutes-or-less ones) - anything on your to-do list you're dreading - DO IT. You'll be amazed how much better you'll feel and how open the rest of the day will seem!

Favorit-est Tip #5: Realize that not all problems are yours to solve. Just because someone is willing to dump THEIR problem on you doesn't mean you have to accept it.

Other tips: Hire a Wife, Change Your Self-Talk, Answer the Phone When it Rings Instead of Letting it Go to VM when possible, Rely on a Planner.

I love this list! The white board idea, probably probably works on your subconscious I am SO trying it.  (I think I'll add loose 20 lbs too)

Also, It never occurred to me to blow through all the 5 minute or less stuff...great way to relieve pressure.

I love my White Board.  The key to the white board is to see enough white between the notes that you can actually read your notes!

I like the idea of keeping the long-term goals somewhere where they're not too easy to see. You could end up frustrating yourself and not having any motivation to get them done if you have them "attacking" you every day.

I like tip #3.  I sometimes make a list just before bedtime of things I want to accomplish by 10:00 am after waking in the morning.  Before the list I found I'd often feel a little overwhelmed by things, until I could actually see they were doable on paper.

Love, Love. Love this list! Especially about answering your phone... how about #5.1 being, "return calls promptly".

All the best!

I couldn't function without a daily To Do list. I think I'll get a white board to keep track of those bigger goals, so they are a bit more 'in my face'. Nice post!

I think I read and commented on this the other day, but a fresh look made me decide to start using the white-board I have leaning in the corner. THANKS for the tip!

Great Tips! Don't have room for a white board but can tack a list to the side of my file. That'll work. Thanks!

great suggestions,...I have noticed that the successful agents allocate a tiome slot in each day for social networking and prospecting and the rest of the day is utilized in client matters

Great post, Jennifer.  If you're a list person...like many of us...you might like a book by David Allen called Getting Things Done.  His ideas are all about getting stuff into a system of lists and outta your head so you can focus.  Simple ideas but they really work.  Check it out.

Awesome tips!  It makes me feel good, that I pretty much have been going by this list instead of what a couple other people have told me.  I find this list is how to do it to succeed!  I just need the dry erase board.

Tracking what needs to be done when necessarily requires some form of list. According to me, learning time management skills or using time tracking app is more helpful.

It provides useful techniques for setting and achieving goals, how to better organise ourself and identify the right things to do and develop plans for doing them.  We will get hundreds of applications through Google search. But, I prefer to use time recording software from Replicon.
