I am usually so busy with clients that I always get to pass this weekly event as I am driving around, and never get to visit. This past Saturday, a client re-scheduled, and so I finally made it to the Farmer’s Market. What a joy it was!
The weather obliged, and it was sunny and people were there enjoying the free samples but mostly buying! We were entertained by the Chatsworth Elementary School Band (accomplished young musicians one and all). The market was officially opened on May 25th and per the web site runs through December 21st. It usually closes around 1 p.m. every Saturday… I was surprised to hear from one baker that he is the first there each week around 7 am… so I am loathe to mention that it opens at 9 for it would seem not!
The longest line was for the pickles (Dr.Pickle), and well worth waiting for… I heard people 'oohing and aaahing' over the baked goods and pretty much everything. The vegetables and fruits looked so fresh and abundant (and so much vibrant color - the way vegetables used to be)… I bought a few pounds of rhubarb and made a rhubarb and apple crisp.. with a rich (British)custard.
If you are in the area, pop in for a visit – you won’t be sorry..
